Sebastian Coe
Sebastian Newbold Coe, Baron Coe, CH, KBE, Hon FRIBA, is a distinguished British sports figure, celebrated for his achievements as an athlete, politician, and sports administrator. A prominent middle-distance runner, Coe clinched four Olympic medals, achieving gold in the 1500 meters at both the 1980 Moscow and 1984 Los Angeles Games. His illustrious athletic career includes setting an impressive nine outdoor and three indoor world records in middle-distance events, notably shattering three world records within just 41 days in 1979. His remarkable 800 meters world record, established in 1981, stood unmatched until 1997. Coe's intense rivalries with fellow athletes Steve Ovett and Steve Cram made headlines and shaped the sport during the 1980s.
After retiring from competitive athletics, Coe transitioned to politics, serving as a Conservative Member of Parliament for Falmouth and Camborne from 1992 to 1997. He was elevated to Life Peer on May 16, 2000. Coe played a pivotal role in securing the London 2012 Olympic bid and went on to chair the London Organising Committee for the Games. In 2007, he was elected as a vice-president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), and his leadership was reaffirmed with a re-election in 2011. In August 2015, he ascended to the position of president of the IAAF, further solidifying his influence in the world of athletics.
