César Díaz, born on September 20, 1978, is a talented Belgian-Guatemalan filmmaker known for his work as a director, screenwriter, and editor. Hailing from Guatemala City, Díaz relocated to Belgium in 1998 to study at the Free University of Brussels. His passion for storytelling led him to further his education in filmmaking at La Fémis in Paris, where he focused on screenwriting.

Díaz began his career in the mid-2000s, primarily working on various documentary projects. However, it was his feature film debut, *Our Mothers*, released in 2019, that truly marked his entry into the international film scene. The film made a significant impact at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it earned Díaz the prestigious Caméra d'Or for best first film.

*Our Mothers* not only garnered critical acclaim but also received the André Cavens Award for Best Film from the Belgian Film Critics Association (UCC). Additionally, it was chosen as Belgium’s submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 92nd Academy Awards. The film was recognized at the 10th Magritte Awards with six nominations, including Best Film and Best Director for Díaz, ultimately winning the award for Best First Feature Film. Through his work, Díaz continues to shine a light on pivotal themes and narratives within the cinematic landscape.
