Matilda Rapaport
Matilda Rapaport was a renowned Swedish extreme free-skier celebrated for her remarkable contributions to the skiing world. Notable for her appearances in films such as *Shades of Winter* (2013), *Pure* (2014), and *Between* (2016), she captivated audiences with her exceptional skills and passion for the sport.
Tragically, on July 14, 2016, while filming promotional content for Ubisoft's upcoming video game *Steep* in Farellones, Chile, Rapaport was caught in a devastating avalanche. The game, which features competitive extreme winter sports including skiing and snowboarding, required authentic footage, prompting Rapaport to ski alone down an Andean mountain shortly after a snowstorm. Although the fresh powder was ideal for filming, it was also unstable. Reports suggest that she may have heard the avalanche's ominous roar too late, and despite her efforts to escape its path, she was ultimately buried in the snow.
Following the incident, Rapaport was transported to a hospital in Santiago, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries on July 18, 2016, at the age of 30. Her untimely death shocked the skiing community, leaving a legacy of inspiration and a reminder of the dangers faced by extreme athletes.
