Damon Evans, born on November 24, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland, is a distinguished American actor recognized for his portrayal of Lionel Jefferson in the iconic CBS sitcom The Jeffersons, where he was the second actor to take on the role. Additionally, he played a young Alex Haley, covering the ages of 17 to 25, in the landmark ABC miniseries Roots: The Next Generations.

Evans’s artistic journey began at the Interlochen Academy, where he enrolled on a Reader's Digest Scholarship. He further honed his craft at the Boston Conservatory of Music, participating in various productions including Hair and The Corner with the Theatre Company of Boston.

His career spans both Off-Broadway and Broadway, with notable performances in A Day in the Life of Just About Everyone, Bury the Dead for the Urban Arts Corp, and Love Me, Love My Children. He made his Broadway debut in The Me Nobody Knows and continued to shine in productions such as Via Galactica and Lost in the Stars. A highlight of his career was touring as Judas and Jesus in the concert version of Jesus Christ Superstar and appearing in the acclaimed musical Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope, which received multiple prestigious awards.

In the late 1980s, Evans gained acclaim for his role as Sportin' Life in Trevor Nunn's celebrated production of Porgy and Bess at the Glyndebourne Festival, which was later adapted for television in 1993.
