Robert Martin, born on December 8, 1962, in Toronto, Ontario, is a distinguished actor, writer, and director renowned for his contributions to both television and musical theatre.

His artistic journey began in 1996 at The Second City in Toronto, where he honed his skills in acting and directing, eventually becoming the company's artistic director from 2003 to 2004. Martin made a significant mark on Broadway in 2005 with his role as "Man in Chair" in *The Drowsy Chaperone*, a musical he co-created with Don McKellar, Lisa Lambert, and Greg Morrison. This role earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical and a win for Best Book of a Musical, shared with McKellar. He later reprised his performance in London’s West End, securing an Olivier nomination.

In 2009, Martin penned the book for *Minsky's*, which debuted at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles. He collaborated again on Broadway with *Elf*, co-writing the book with Thomas Meehan, which enjoyed limited runs during the holiday seasons of 2010 and 2012. His musical adaptation of *The Sting* premiered at Paper Mill Playhouse, showcasing his continued prowess in musical storytelling.
