Barry Andrews
Barry Andrews, born on September 12, 1956, is an accomplished English musician recognized for his talents as a songwriter, singer, and keyboardist. He is best known as a co-founder of the influential band Shriekback and has also made significant contributions to XTC and The League of Gentlemen.
Andrews began his musical journey in covers bands across Swindon and Exeter after completing his education. In 1978, he joined XTC, where he was instrumental in producing their first two albums, *White Music* and *Go 2*, before departing in 1979. That same year, he released the solo EP *Town and Country* under Virgin Records and collaborated on Iggy Pop’s *Soldier*, alongside notable artists such as David Bowie and Glen Matlock.
In 1980, Andrews released the single "Rossmore Road/Win a Night Out with a Well-Known Paranoiac" and joined Robert Fripp's The League of Gentlemen, contributing to one album before the band disbanded. He later formed Restaurant for Dogs with fellow musicians Kevin Wilkinson, Dave Marx, and Bruce McRae, with additional members joining over time.
His collaboration with bassist Dave Allen, who had recently departed from Gang of Four, led to the formation of Shriekback in 1981, alongside guitarist/vocalist Carl Marsh. Over the past 44 years, Shriekback has released 18 studio albums, solidifying their place in the music industry and showcasing Andrews' enduring creativity and passion for music.
