Michael Stephen "Mike" Portnoy is an acclaimed American drummer, renowned for his role as the founding drummer, backing vocalist, and songwriter for the progressive metal band Dream Theater. His remarkable drumming abilities and technical finesse have earned him 23 accolades from Modern Drummer magazine, highlighting his status as one of the foremost drummers in the genre. Portnoy played a pivotal role in co-producing Dream Theater's last six albums alongside guitarist John Petrucci, beginning with the iconic *Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory*. He also contributed significantly to the band's lyrical content starting with *A Change of Seasons*, showcasing his multifaceted talents.
