James Daniel Jordan, born on February 17, 1964, is a prominent American politician representing Ohio's 4th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2007. A member of the Republican Party, Jordan has made significant contributions to American politics, marked by his background as a two-time NCAA national champion wrestler and a former college wrestling coach.

In Congress, Jordan was instrumental in establishing the House Freedom Caucus, serving as its inaugural chair from 2015 to 2017 and as vice chair thereafter. He gained attention for his vocal opposition to then-Speaker John Boehner, whose resignation in 2015 was influenced by the Freedom Caucus. Jordan held the position of ranking member on the House Oversight Committee from 2019 to 2020 before transitioning to the House Judiciary Committee, where he assumed the role of chair in 2023. As of January 2023, he is also recognized as the dean of Ohio's Republican delegation following the departure of Steve Chabot.

A staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, Jordan played a key role in efforts to undermine investigations into Russian election interference and participated in protests against Trump's impeachment. Following the 2020 presidential election, he supported various lawsuits challenging the results and opposed the certification of the Electoral College.

Jordan initially opposed Kevin McCarthy's bid for the speakership in 2015 but later became a significant supporter. In October 2023, he was nominated to succeed McCarthy after his removal but was unable to secure the speakership after multiple voting rounds.
