Boris Khmelnitsky, a celebrated Russian actor renowned for his contributions to both film and theatre, was a prominent figure in the prestigious Taganka Theatre, directed by the esteemed Yuriy Lyubimov. Born on June 27, 1940, in Ussuriisk, a quaint town near Vladivostok in the Soviet Union, he was raised in an environment enriched by his father's status as a high-ranking officer in the Soviet Red Army. This upbringing exposed Khmelnitsky to the arts from an early age, igniting his passion for literature, music, and performance.

Khmelnitsky pursued formal education in the arts, graduating as an orchestral conductor from Lvov College of Music in 1961, followed by acting studies at the Shchukin Theatrical School in Moscow, where he graduated in 1966. His film career began with a debut in 'Kto vernetsa - dolyubit' by Leonid Osyka, but he gained widespread acclaim for his performances in 'Sofiya Perovskaya' (1967) and 'Krasnaya palatka' (1970). He became particularly beloved for his portrayal of Robin Hood in 'Strely Robin Guda' (1975) and later in 'The Ballad of the Valiant Knight Ivanhoe' (1983).

Khmelnitsky was a key member of the Taganka Theatre from 1964 to 1984, sharing the stage with notable talents like Vladimir Vysotskiy and Alla Demidova in productions such as 'Pugachev' and 'Master i Margarita,' where he also composed music. A recognized figure in the cultural landscape of the 1960s, he was honored as People's Actor of Russia in 2000. Khmelnitsky passed away on February 16, 2008, after a prolonged illness, and was interred at Kuntsevs
