Joe Berlinger

Joseph "Joe" Berlinger, born on October 30, 1961, is a prominent American documentary filmmaker renowned for his impactful storytelling. He gained significant recognition through his collaboration with Bruce Sinofsky, producing critically acclaimed films such as *Paradise Lost*, which examines the West Memphis 3 case, *Brother's Keeper*, *Some Kind of Monster*, and *Crude*.

In addition to his filmmaking, Berlinger co-authored the book *Metallica: This Monster Lives* with journalist Greg Milner. This work chronicles his transformation from directing the less successful *Blair Witch 2* to working with the iconic heavy metal band Metallica on the documentary *Some Kind of Monster*.

Berlinger's talents extend to television, where he contributed to series like *Homicide: Life on the Street*, *D.C.*, and *FanClub*. His directorial debut, the 1992 documentary *My Brother's Keeper*, tells the compelling story of Delbart Ward, an elderly man accused of second-degree murder in New York. Esteemed film critic Roger Ebert praised the documentary as "extraordinary," highlighting the community's response to what was perceived as a miscarriage of justice.
