Dennis Murphy is a distinguished American television journalist who has garnered four national Emmy Awards for his exceptional news reporting. He is widely recognized for his contributions to prominent programs such as NBC News, NBC Nightly News, Dateline NBC, The Today Show, and NBC News at Sunrise.

Murphy began his journalism journey in New York as a desk assistant at WCBS-TV before moving to KHOU-TV in Houston, Texas, where he honed his skills as an assignment editor, producer, and reporter. In 1982, he became an NBC News correspondent at the Burbank bureau, and soon after, he was stationed in Miami. During the 1980s, he reported extensively on significant events across South and Central America, including the Grenada invasion, the Nicaraguan civil war, the eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano in Colombia, and the activities of notorious drug lords. He also covered the Democratic presidential primaries in 1988 and served as NBC's correspondent for the Bush campaign.

Joining Dateline NBC in May 1994, Murphy continued to make an impact. He received the Edward R. Murrow Award in 2000 for his report on Hurricane Floyd and was honored with multiple awards for "Children of the Harvest," a poignant story highlighting the lives of child migrant laborers. His impactful reporting has taken him to over 50 countries, where he has covered major global stories, including the Persian Gulf conflicts, the fall of the Soviet Union, and the war on terror in Afghanistan.
