Lynsey Addario is a distinguished American photojournalist renowned for her striking visual storytelling. Her professional journey commenced in 1996 when she began working for the Buenos Aires Herald in Argentina. In the late 1990s, she transitioned to freelancing in New York City for the Associated Press, where her impactful work earned her recognition over three years. Following this, Addario relocated to New Delhi, India, to cover South Asian stories for notable publications including The Christian Science Monitor, The Boston Globe, and the Houston Chronicle.
In 2000, Addario embarked on her first trip to Afghanistan, focusing on the plight of women under Taliban rule. Her commitment to documenting their struggles led her to make three visits to the country prior to the September 11 attacks in 2001. Since then, her career has flourished, with her lens capturing crucial conflicts, humanitarian crises, and women's rights issues across the globe, including in Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Darfur, South Sudan, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Yemen, Syria, and Ukraine.
