Stephen Percy "Steve" Harris, born on March 12, 1957, is a prominent English musician and songwriter, best known as the bassist, occasional keyboardist, backing vocalist, and primary songwriter for the iconic heavy metal band Iron Maiden. Harris founded the band in 1975 when he was just a teenager, and he remains the sole original member still active in the group, having played on every one of their albums alongside fellow guitarist Dave Murray, who joined in 1976.

Before his musical journey took off, Harris worked as an architectural draftsman in London's East End. He made the pivotal decision to leave that career behind in order to pursue his passion for music. In his earlier years during the mid-1970s, Harris also showcased his athleticism as a youth team footballer for West Ham United, a club he continues to support. His love for football is evident, often seen incorporating the West Ham crest on his bass guitar, reflecting his lasting connection to the sport.

Harris's contributions to heavy metal extend beyond his bass playing; he is recognized for his intricate songwriting, which has shaped the sound and identity of Iron Maiden. With a career spanning several decades, he has left an indelible mark on the music industry, solidifying his status as a legendary figure in rock history.
