Marcela Březinová
Marcela Březinová, born on November 18, 1960, is a renowned Czech singer, songwriter, and educator. Her musical journey began as a finalist in the talent competition Young Song in 1980, which marked the start of her professional career. She gained significant recognition as the lead vocalist of the experimental electronic band OK Band from 1981 to 1987, where she contributed to the group’s foundational musical repertoire.
Following her departure from OK Band, Březinová embarked on a solo career, frequently collaborating with other artists. Notably, she worked alongside Lešek Semelka in the project S.L.S. from 1987 to 1991 and was also a member of Yandim Band, led by Slávka Janda, between 1989 and 1990. The 1990s proved to be a fruitful decade for her, as she released two significant albums that garnered her critical acclaim, including a prestigious Grammy Award.
In the 2000s, Březinová made a return to OK Band, participating in its revival from 1999 to 2003 and again from 2011 to 2013. Her innovative approach to music has been recognized by the Encyclopedia of Jazz and Modern Popular Music, which credits her with being one of the pioneering artists to integrate new wave vocal techniques into the Czech female vocal landscape.
