Atıf Kaptan (May 21, 1908 – April 22, 1977) was a prominent Turkish actor renowned for his contributions to both film and theater. His artistic journey commenced in 1928, when he performed in Shakespeare's “Hamlet” at the prestigious Dar-ül Bedayi theater. That same year marked his entry into the world of cinema, where he quickly made a name for himself.

Kaptan rose to fame for his memorable performance as “Yahya Kaptan” in “Bir Millet Uyanıyor” (A Nation Awakens), the first Turkish sound film, which garnered significant attention and acclaim. His passion for theater led him to establish his own troupe, “Kaptan Tiyatrosu” (Captain's Theater), which allowed him to bring performances to audiences across Anatolia.

Despite his deep-rooted love for the stage, Kaptan eventually shifted his focus predominantly to film, leaving an indelible mark on the Turkish cinema landscape.
