Prodigy

Albert Johnson, known to the world as "Prodigy," made a significant mark in the hip-hop scene as one half of the influential duo Mobb Deep. Born into a musical family, Prodigy pursued studies in art and design in Manhattan, where he first crossed paths with fellow rapper Kejuan Muchita, who later adopted the name Havoc. The duo initially performed under the moniker "Poetical Prophets" before solidifying their legacy as Mobb Deep. Their groundbreaking album, *The Infamous*, achieved gold status and was succeeded by critically acclaimed releases like *Hell on Earth* and *Murda Muzik*, establishing their reputation for gritty, hardcore gangsta rap that resonated with audiences.

In addition to his work with Mobb Deep, Prodigy released a successful solo album titled *H.N.I.C.*, which further showcased his lyrical prowess. Throughout his career, he faced legal issues, including a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence stemming from illegal gun possession. The duo briefly parted ways during his incarceration but reunited upon his release.

Prodigy battled sickle-cell anemia from birth, suffering severe pain that he poignantly expressed in his track "You Can Never Feel My Pain." He was married to Ikesha Dudley, though their union was short-lived. Tragically, Prodigy's life was cut short at the age of 42 due to complications from his illness, but his contributions to rap continue to resonate, solidifying his status as a legend in the genre.
