Catherine Ringer

Catherine Ringer, born on October 18, 1957, is a multifaceted French artist renowned for her contributions as a singer, songwriter, composer, and dancer. Co-founding the influential pop rock band Les Rita Mitsouko alongside Fred Chichin in 1979, Ringer quickly established herself as a dynamic force in the French music scene. The duo achieved significant acclaim with their hit "Marcia Baïla," a heartfelt homage to Argentine dancer Marcia Moretto, who passed away in 1981.

Ringer's artistic journey began in the late 1970s, performing with Michael Lonsdale's Théâtre de Recherche Musicale and engaging in various dance and musical productions. Following the tragic death of Chichin in 2007, she continued to lead Les Rita Mitsouko, ensuring their legacy remained vibrant.

In 2014, Ringer expanded her artistic horizons by collaborating with former Gotan Project members Eduardo Makaroff and Christoph H. Müller, forming the Plaza Francia Orchestra. Their debut album, "A New Tango Song Book," was released on April 7, 2014, receiving critical acclaim and achieving commercial success in France and Belgium. Ringer's innovative approach to music and performance continues to captivate audiences, and she remains an active figure in the industry today.
