Howard Brush Dean III, born on November 17, 1948, is a prominent American physician, author, consultant, and former politician. He held the office of the 79th governor of Vermont from 1991 until 2003, where he was known for his progressive policies and healthcare reforms. Dean gained national prominence when he ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004, although he did not secure the nomination.

After his gubernatorial tenure, Dean assumed the role of chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 2005 to 2009.
