She gained prominence as the first black actress to lead a soap opera on Rede Globo with her role in "A Cabana do Pai Tomás" in 1969, marking a significant milestone in the representation of black talent in the media. Prior to this, she made waves as the second black actress on Brazilian television, following Yolanda Braga, appearing in "A Cor da Sua Pele" on TV Tupi in 1965.

Ruth's impactful career also includes a historic achievement when she became the first Brazilian actress to receive a nomination for best actress at an international film festival. This accolade was for her outstanding performance in "Sinhá Moça," which premiered in 1954 at the prestigious Venice Film Festival.
