Pat Sajak
Pat Sajak, originally named Patrick Leonard Sajdak, is a prominent American television personality, recognized predominantly for his long-standing role as the host of the iconic game show Wheel of Fortune. Born on October 26, 1946, Sajak's journey in broadcasting began at Columbia College Chicago, where he was encouraged by his professor to pursue a career in radio. His early career took off when he won a contest to be a teen DJ on WLS radio.
After serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he worked as a disc jockey for Armed Forces Radio, Sajak returned to civilian life to further his broadcasting career. He worked as a DJ in Murray, Kentucky, and later at the renowned WSM in Nashville, where he transitioned to television as a weekend weatherman.
In 1981, Merv Griffin recruited Sajak to take over hosting duties for Wheel of Fortune, a role he initially struggled to secure due to network reservations. However, he eventually succeeded and began hosting the show in 1983. Since then, he has hosted both the daytime and syndicated versions, and by the 2018-2019 season, he became the longest-running game show host in history, a title recognized by Guinness World Records. Sajak has also made appearances in films and various game shows, including a memorable role in Airplane II: The Sequel and guest spots on Super Password. His career continues to thrive, solidifying his place as a television legend.
