Denis Urubko, born on July 29, 1973, in Nevinnomyssk, Russia, is a distinguished mountaineer who has represented both Russia and Poland, previously holding Kazakh citizenship from 1991 to 2012. Notably, in 2009, he achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the fifteenth individual to ascend all 14 peaks that exceed 8,000 meters.

Urubko's career is marked by several significant accomplishments, including a stunning victory in the speed climbing competition on Mount Elbrus in 2006, where he reached the summit from the Azau station in just 3 hours, 55 minutes, and 58 seconds—nearly 40 minutes ahead of his nearest competitor. He also triumphed at the Khan Tengri Mountain Festival, completing a round trip from the base camp to the summit in an impressive 12 hours and 21 minutes.

In the realm of high-altitude winter climbing, Urubko made history by summiting two 8,000-meter peaks: Makalu in 2009, alongside Simone Moro, and Gasherbrum II in 2011, with Cory Richards and Simone Moro. He has successfully climbed a total of 22 peaks over 8,000 meters and is renowned for opening new routes on Cho Oyu, Manaslu, and Broad Peak. He was awarded the prestigious Snow Leopard accolade and set a record by summiting the five 7,000-meter peaks of the former USSR in just 42 days in 1999.

In a notable act of bravery in January 2018, Urubko, along with Adam Bielecki, led a challenging rescue mission for climbers Elisabeth Revol and Tomasz Mackiewicz on Nanga Parbat in Pakistan. Despite facing treacherous conditions, they successfully saved Revol but were unable to reach Mackiewicz.
