John Edward Walsh Jr., born on December 26, 1945, is a renowned American television personality, criminal investigator, and advocate for victims' rights, best known for creating and hosting the influential program, America's Most Wanted. His journey into anti-crime activism began tragically with the abduction and murder of his only son, Adam, in 1981. Although convicted serial killer Ottis Toole confessed to the crime, he was never prosecuted due to lost evidence and later recanted. In 2008, Toole was officially identified as Adam's killer, bringing some closure to the case.

Walsh's commitment to raising awareness about missing children was evident in the 1983 NBC film, Adam, which depicted the events surrounding his son's disappearance. He and his wife Revé made a poignant appearance at the end of the film to encourage the search for other missing children. In 1988, Walsh launched America's Most Wanted on Fox, which became the longest-running crime reality show in the network's history, aiding in the apprehension of over 1,000 fugitives before its cancellation in 2011.

Additionally, Walsh hosted The John Walsh Show from 2002 to 2004, and later, The Hunt with John Walsh on CNN starting in 2014, followed by In Pursuit with John Walsh on Investigation Discovery in 2019, co-hosted by his son Callahan. His advocacy for child safety earned him the Operation Kids Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Walsh is also an accomplished author, with three books to his name, including Tears of Rage (1997) and Public Enemies (2001). Through his efforts, Walsh continues to be a powerful voice in the fight against crime and the protection of children.
