Fouzia El Kader, originally named Fouzia Menaceri, was born in 1940 in Algeria and passed away on September 10, 2019. She is best remembered for her remarkable portrayal of Hassiba Ben Bouali in the groundbreaking film "The Battle of Algiers," directed by Gillo Pontecorvo. At the age of 25, she was discovered by the film crew and cast alongside notable actors such as Brahim Hadjadj and Jean Martin. The film, which was set during the tumultuous events of 1957 in Algeria, highlights the fierce struggle between the Algerian people and French colonial forces. It depicted the harrowing realities of war, including the use of torture and terrorism, as both sides fought for their ideals.
