Fatoş Sezer

Fatoş Sezer (31 January 1958 – 1 June 2011) was a celebrated Turkish actress known for her impactful presence on stage and screen. Born in Gölcük, Kocaeli, Turkey, she was the youngest of three siblings in a family of Polish immigrants who fled to Turkey during World War II. Tragically, Sezer lost her father at the tender age of six and her mother four years later. At just 17, she entered into her first marriage.

Sezer's artistic journey began in 1980 when she ventured into modeling, subsequently enrolling in acting, dance, and costume design classes at Bilsak Theatre. She made her film debut in 1984 with a role in "Gönlüm ve Ben." Her passion for the arts led her to Paris, where she studied French language and literature at the prestigious Sorbonne. In 1986, she wed director Mehmet Ulusoy and became involved with the Theatre de Liberte, which he founded.

The late 1980s marked a defining period for Sezer, as she starred in several films directed by Halit Refiğ. Her compelling performance in Refiğ's 1987 film "Kurtar Beni" earned her the Best Supporting Actress award at the 25th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. After a brief return to theatre, she divorced Ulusoy in 1994 and later dated Selçuk Gerede, son of notable director Hüsrev Gerede. In her final years, Sezer also contributed to the arts as an art director for various magazines.

Fatoş Sezer passed away unexpectedly at the age of 53 due to a heart attack on 1 June 2011. Her funeral took place the following day at Şişli Mosque, and she was laid to rest at Edirnekapı Sakızağacı Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy of artistic dedication.
