Matthew Amroliwala
Matthew Amroliwala is a prominent British television news presenter, recognized as one of the leading anchors on the BBC News Channel. His experience extends to occasionally stepping in as a relief presenter for the BBC News at One on BBC One. Notably, he co-hosted the crime investigation series Crimewatch with Kirsty Young from January 2008 until March 2015, highlighting significant criminal cases.
Before embarking on his media career, Amroliwala trained as a chartered accountant. He joined the BBC in 1990, quickly transitioning to the role of network television correspondent. By 1997, he had taken on the role of presenter for the BBC News Channel's evening broadcasts. In early 2001, he began co-presenting the late afternoon news program, first alongside Jane Hill and later with Maxine Mawhinney. Their partnership continued until March 2013, after which they shifted to the 2 pm–5 pm slot, with Emily Maitlis joining them on Mondays.
Amroliwala has reported on numerous significant global events, including extensive coverage of the Northern Ireland conflict and the fall of Srebrenica during the Bosnian War. Since September 8, 2014, he has been at the helm of Global, the flagship program of BBC World News, and on June 27, 2016, he made his debut as the presenter for World News Today. In February 2023, it was announced that he would assume the role of chief presenter for the BBC's new news channel, set to launch in April 2023, catering to both UK and international audiences.
