Kira Powell is a talented Afro-Latina filmmaker, proudly representing her African American and Ecuadorian heritage. She gained significant recognition for her AFI thesis film, Best Eyes, which earned her the prestigious Directors Guild of America Jury Award. Kira holds a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from the American Film Institute, where she honed her skills in storytelling that delve into themes of identity, the immigrant journey, and the quest for self-understanding.

Her acclaimed solo performance piece, Caught In The Mix, garnered accolades for its profound social relevance and marked a pivotal moment in her evolution as a writer-director. In 2023, Kira made waves in the film festival circuit with her psychological horror short, The Good Mother, which premiered at Screamfest.

Before stepping into the director's chair, Kira established herself as a SAG-AFTRA actor, showcasing her talents in film, theater, and commercials. As she continues to build her impressive portfolio, she is currently transforming Best Eyes into her first feature film while also developing original projects for both film and television.
