Born in 1972 in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, England, Casey pursued a degree in English literature at Durham University before honing his craft at the Drama Centre London. His professional acting career began in 1996 with a touring production of Dead Fish, and shortly thereafter, he made his television debut in the BBC series Our Friends in the North.

In 1997, Casey joined the cast of Midsomer Murders as the beloved DS Gavin Troy, a role that would become synonymous with his name and secure him a place in the hearts of fans. Following his departure from the show, he continued to excel in the television landscape with appearances in Steel River Blues, Marchlands, and even the iconic soap Coronation Street.
