Luis August Krawen is a prominent German visual artist whose work elegantly bridges the realms of theatre and digital art. Born and raised in Berlin, Krawen honed his craft early on as a member of P14, the youth theatre club affiliated with Volksbuehne. His artistic journey took a significant turn at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen, where he first encountered 3D animation, which would become a pivotal element in his artistic expression.
Over the past few years, Krawen's contributions have graced numerous prestigious venues, including Schauspielhaus Zurich, Staatsoper Hamburg, Muenchner Kammerspiele, Residenztheater, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Maxim-Gorki-Theater, and Schauspiel Frankfurt. In 2020, he was honored to be an artist-in-residence at Muenchner Kammerspiele, where he developed his own projects, notably the installation "The Shire," which garnered invitations to various festivals, alongside the compelling performance "Nightcore."
Looking ahead, Krawen is set to release "Planet Magnon," a feature-length animated film featuring the cast of Muenchner Kammerspiele, anticipated for mid-2024. Additionally, in 2022, he showcased his talents through digital projections for two segments of "The Ring of the Nibelung," directed by Valentin Schwartz, and "Tristan and Isolde," under the direction of Roland Schwab at the illustrious Bayreuther Festspiele. Krawen continues to push the boundaries of visual storytelling in contemporary theatre.
