Newirth began his journey in the industry as a location manager for notable films such as *Flashdance* (1983), *Pretty in Pink* (1986), and *Ferris Bueller's Day Off* (1986). His career progressed as he took on roles as a production manager for *Throw Momma from the Train* (1987) and *RoboCop* (1987), eventually earning his first associate producer credit on *The Package* (1989).

Among his career highlights, Newirth co-produced the critically acclaimed *Forrest Gump* (1994), which won multiple Academy Awards. He also worked on Barry Levinson's films, including *Toys* (1992) and the Oscar-nominated *Bugsy* (1991).
