Aleka (Alexandra) Katseli, born Mazaraki in Athens on October 19, 1917, was a distinguished Greek actress and trained dancer whose impact on the performing arts spanned several decades. She made her theatrical debut in 1942 at the "Karolos Koun" Art Theater amidst the challenging backdrop of World War II. Following the liberation of Greece, her career flourished, and in 1945, she joined the National Theater, where she portrayed Portia in William Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice," directed by her future husband, Pelos Katseli.

After a brief departure from the National Theater, Katseli became a prominent figure in various dramatic productions, showcasing her talent in leading roles. She returned to the National Theater in 1950, where her performances included pivotal roles in George Bernard Shaw’s "Saint Joan" and Dionysios Roma's "Three Worlds."

In addition to her stage work, Katseli also made her mark in film, appearing in "Lycaena," and contributed to the Greek Dance Drama with productions like "Marsyas" and "Forms of a Woman," both composed by Manos Hadjidakis in 1949. Her illustrious career reached a peak in 1986 with her compelling portrayal in Federico Garcia Lorca's "The House of Bernarda Alba." Throughout her life, Katseli's influence extended across cinema, television, and radio, solidifying her legacy as a versatile and celebrated artist. She passed away on September 11, 1994.
