Al Spoler has dedicated nearly four decades to the realm of public broadcasting, making significant contributions to both television and radio. With a background as a producer and director at Maryland Public Television (MPT), he has also gained recognition as the co-host of WYPR-FM’s popular programs, "Cellar Notes" and "Radio Kitchen." His involvement in these shows sparked a deep passion for locally sourced food and wine.

In 2010, Spoler explored the "eat local" phenomenon through his documentary, The Maryland Harvest, which highlights the efforts of Free State farmers and their collaborations with esteemed local restaurants. He is a regular at Baltimore's farmers markets, where he has cultivated strong relationships with farmers throughout Maryland. Beyond The Maryland Harvest, Spoler has produced and hosted other notable series, including Chesapeake Wine Country and Brewed on the Bay for MPT. His storytelling skills have also contributed significantly to MPT’s flagship series, Outdoors Maryland.

A fervent advocate for Maryland wines, Al Spoler serves as the director of the Maryland Governor’s Cup Wine Competition, further showcasing his commitment to promoting the state's wine industry.
