Chiranjeet Chakraborty
Chiranjeet Chakraborty, born Deepak Chakraborty on November 2, 1955, is a prominent Indian actor and director renowned for his contributions to the Bengali film industry based in Kolkata, West Bengal. In addition to his cinematic endeavors, he is an active politician, serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Government of West Bengal.
Chiranjeet's journey began in Kolkata, where he completed his Higher Secondary education at Mitra Institution (Main). He pursued a degree in Architecture at Jadavpur University but did not finish the program. His early career included work as a newsreader on television and contributions to Desh magazine, showcasing his versatility as a stage artist. He is married and has a daughter.
His film career took off with his debut in the 1981 movie Sonay Sohaga, although it didn’t initially catapult him to fame. It was his role in Anjan Choudhury's 1984 film Shotru that marked the beginning of his rise to stardom. Chiranjeet’s breakout came with the 1985 hit Antarale, followed by a string of successful films including Pratikar, Paapi, Paap Punyo, and Beder Meye Joshna. His collaboration with acclaimed director Rituparno Ghosh in the 2000 film Bariwali further solidified his status as one of the most successful actors in Bengali cinema. In 2002, he received the BFJA Award for his remarkable performance in Abaidha, directed by Gul Bahar Singh.
