Jill Stein
Jill Ellen Stein, born on May 14, 1950, is a prominent American physician and political activist, recognized for her role as the Green Party's candidate for President of the United States in three election cycles: 2012, 2016, and 2024. Her political journey began with her candidacy for governor of Massachusetts under the Green-Rainbow Party in 2002, where she faced off against Republican Mitt Romney, and again in 2010, competing against incumbent Democrat Deval Patrick.
Stein's medical career laid the groundwork for her advocacy, particularly in promoting stricter air quality regulations for coal-fired power plants, showcasing her commitment to environmental health issues. Her presidential campaigns began in 2012, when she partnered with Cheri Honkala and garnered attention despite losing to the Democratic duo of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. In 2016, she ran again, this time with Ajamu Baraka, competing against Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, with Trump ultimately emerging victorious.
Stein's political engagements have not been without controversy; in 2017, she came under investigation by the Senate Intelligence Committee regarding alleged connections with the Russian government. Throughout her career, Stein has remained a vocal advocate for progressive policies, environmental sustainability, and social justice, marking her as a significant figure in contemporary American politics.
