Gianni Nazzaro (October 27, 1948 – July 27, 2021) was a renowned Italian singer and actor, celebrated for his contributions to the music and entertainment scene. Hailing from Naples, he initially began his artistic journey under the stage name Buddy, releasing an impressive 59 singles primarily composed of cover songs from 1965 to 1968. In 1968, he transitioned to using his real name and gained recognition with his participation in the music festival Un disco per l'estate, where he performed the song "Solo noi." His career peaked in 1970 when he clinched victory at the Napoli Music Festival with the heartfelt track "Me chiamme ammore."

As the years progressed, Nazzaro's musical output began to diminish in the 1980s as he shifted his focus to stage musicals, where he found considerable success. Born into a family connected to the arts, he was the son of vaudeville actor and gossip columnist Erminio Nazzaro and was part of a close-knit family of four siblings. In the early 1970s, he married Nada Ovcina, with whom he had two children, Junior (born 1973) and Giorgia (born 1976). After a period of separation, the couple rekindled their relationship, and Ovcina remarried Nazzaro mere hours before his passing from lung cancer on July 27, 2021, in a Rome hospital.
