James Yi Lui, born in 1943, was the son of renowned comic actor Yi Chau-shui. His journey in the entertainment industry began at the young age of 17 when he joined Shaw Brothers Studios as a minor actor. His first appearance was in the 1958 film *Sweet Girl in Terror*. A significant turning point in his career came with his performance in *Teddy Girls* (1969), which led to a series of prominent lead and supporting roles. His comedic talent truly shone in the film *Adventure in Denmark* (1973), propelling him to stardom.

Over the course of his career, Lui was featured in nearly 100 films, establishing himself as a beloved figure in the Hong Kong film industry until his retirement in 1989. In addition to acting, he founded his own production company, Daai Sing, through which he directed and produced several notable films. His final project was the ghost comedy *Excuse Me, Please!* in 1989, where he showcased both his acting and directing skills.

Tragically, James Yi Lui passed away from heart disease in 1999, leaving behind a legacy marked by his contributions to film and his influence on the comedic genre in Hong Kong cinema. His work continues to be celebrated by fans and filmmakers alike.
