Angelo Muscat
Angelo Muscat (September 24, 1930 – October 10, 1977) was a Maltese-born British actor celebrated for his memorable portrayal of the silent butler in the iconic television series The Prisoner, which aired from 1967 to 1968. Selected by the show's star, Patrick McGoohan, Muscat appeared in 14 episodes, earning a place in cult television history. Standing at just 4 feet 3 inches tall, he was notably shorter than his family, including his father, a policeman. After the loss of his parents, Muscat relocated to England, where he initially took on various unskilled jobs such as a kitchen porter and factory worker.
Muscat's acting career began in earnest in 1961 with a touring production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He made his television debut in the classic series Doctor Who in the 1965 episode "Galaxy 4" as a Chumbley robot. His subsequent credits included a role in the 1966 adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, a brief uncredited appearance in the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour (1967), and his portrayal of an Oompa-Loompa in the beloved film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971). As acting roles became scarce, he turned to crafting birdcages to support himself while living alone in London. Muscat passed away from pneumonia at the age of 47 in St. Bartholomew's Hospital, leaving behind a unique legacy in the world of television and film.
