Shinzō Hotta (ほった しんぞう), born on October 20, 1945, in Gifuura Town, Amakusa-gun, Kumamoto Prefecture (now Amakusa City), is a distinguished Japanese actor known for his dynamic performances in film and television. Initially debuting under the name Akio Asaka, he later adopted various stage names, including Shinzo Hotta and Shinji Hotta. A graduate of Osaka City University, Hotta joined Toei in 1963 after successfully passing the 11th Toei New Face auditions.

His early career featured a significant breakthrough in the 1964 film "Kunoichi Makeup," where he captivated audiences with his portrayal of a tall and handsome young ninja. His compelling presence earned him leading roles, although he often faced challenges in securing prominent characters. Notably, in the television series "Kei Hunter," he showcased his versatility by portraying a formidable antagonist opposite Shibuya Chiba, establishing a lasting camaraderie with his co-star.

One of Hotta's most memorable roles was in the TV drama "Iron King," where he depicted a complex villain, transcending traditional stereotypes. He also made a mark in the special effects genre of the 1970s, lending his voice to characters post-transformation, a task he undertook himself.

In the 1970s, Hotta expanded his career internationally, participating in collaborative projects such as the Japan-China-Korea drama "Strangers 6" in 2012 and the film "The Tenor's Truth." His international presence continued with an appearance in "Utopia Sounds" at the Frankfurt Film Festival in 2013. Additionally, he served as the police chief in Anan, Nagano Prefecture, further showcasing his diverse talents.
