Dennis Wolfberg
Dennis Wolfberg was a dedicated schoolteacher before he decided to pursue his passion for comedy full-time in 1979. He earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Queens College, which provided him with a unique perspective that he often infused into his comedic style.
Wolfberg's journey into the world of comedy began at the esteemed Comic Strip in New York City. Initially, he auditioned as a singer accompanied by his Martin guitar, and luck was on his side as he performed "American Pie," a song that resonated with the club's owner. This pivotal moment marked the start of his comedy career.
Throughout his illustrious career, Wolfberg made notable appearances on prominent television shows, including two stints on The Tonight Show, and frequent features on The Merv Griffin Show, The Pat Sajak Show, and The Arsenio Hall Show. He showcased his talent in a half-hour comedy special on HBO in 1990. Additionally, he portrayed Gooshie on NBC's beloved series Quantum Leap.
In April 1993, Entertainment Tonight spotlighted Wolfberg in a feature titled "A Day in the Life of Dennis Wolfberg," which highlighted his demanding touring schedule. He headlined comedy clubs across the nation and regularly performed in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Twice, he was voted America's top male comic by club-goers and owners, and in 1990, he received the American Comedy Award for best male stand-up, solidifying his legacy in the world of comedy.
