Julien Maury
Julien Maury is a prominent French filmmaker renowned for his collaboration with Alexandre Bustillo, with whom he shares a unique creative partnership, co-directing films while Bustillo handles the screenwriting. Their artistic vision is heavily influenced by iconic figures such as Dario Argento, Roman Polanski, Clive Barker, and John Carpenter.
Maury and Bustillo first garnered significant acclaim with their debut feature, "Inside," a gripping horror film that tells the harrowing tale of a pregnant woman pursued by a deranged woman intent on taking her unborn child. The film not only sparked discussions due to its provocative themes but also marked a pivotal moment in the resurgence of French horror cinema, earning critical praise and establishing Maury and Bustillo as influential voices in the genre.
Following the success of "Inside," both filmmakers were considered for high-profile projects, including "Halloween II," a sequel to Rob Zombie’s adaptation of John Carpenter's classic. They also explored the possibility of remaking Clive Barker’s "Hellraiser." However, they ultimately chose to decline these opportunities, preferring to focus on original works rather than mainstream remakes or films aimed at a PG-13 audience.
In 2011, Maury and Bustillo released "Livid," further showcasing their distinctive approach to horror. Additionally, they contributed to the anthology film "Paris, I’ll Kill You," which encapsulates various chilling tales set in the City of Light.
