Ruy Guerra

Ruy Alexandre Guerra Coelho Pereira, born on August 22, 1931, is a distinguished Portuguese-Brazilian filmmaker, recognized for his multifaceted contributions as a director, screenwriter, film editor, and actor. Originally hailing from Lourenço Marques, now known as Maputo, Mozambique, Guerra was a Portuguese national during his formative years in a colonial setting. His passion for cinema led him to France, where he enrolled at the prestigious IDHEC film school in 1952, honing his craft.

Guerra's cinematic journey began in earnest in 1958 when he took on the role of assistant director for various French productions, gaining invaluable experience in the film industry. His move to Brazil marked a significant turning point in his career, where he made his directorial debut with the feature film *Os Cafajestes* in 1962.
