Erik Berchot

Erik Berchot, born on February 14, 1958, in Paris, is a prominent French classical pianist renowned for his remarkable artistry and diverse musical contributions. He began his musical journey at a young age at the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris, where he excelled under the tutelage of Yvonne Loriod, securing first prizes in both piano and chamber music. His career ascended as he became a soloist for Radio France, showcasing his exceptional talent.

Berchot's prowess has been recognized through numerous accolades, including victories at esteemed international competitions such as the Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition in France, the Viotti Competition in Italy, and the Maria Canals International Music Competition in Spain. Notably, he secured the sixth prize at the X International Chopin Piano Competition in Poland.

In addition to his concert work, Berchot showcased his musical talent as the pianist-actor in Claude Lelouch's film "Partir, revenir" (1985), performing Rachmaninoff's Second Concerto and a piece by Michel Legrand, who frequently collaborates with him. Berchot's discography features works by musical giants like Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Saint-Saëns, and Debussy.

Since 2007, he has served as the solo pianist for the legendary Charles Aznavour, performing at venues across Europe, the Americas, and beyond. His contributions to the arts were honored in 2009 when he received the Chevalier of the Ordre national du Mérite from Michel Legrand, representing the French Republic. Berchot continues to be an influential figure in the classical music scene, often participating in festivals and special projects, including a radio opera commissioned by Radio France.
