Juliet Burnett
Juliet Widyasari Burnett, an Indonesian-Australian dancer, was born on Gadigal land in Sydney. Renowned as one of Australia’s leading dancers, she gained prominence during her tenure with The Australian Ballet, where she showcased her exceptional talent in iconic roles such as Giselle and Odette in Graeme Murphy's interpretation of Swan Lake. Her repertoire also included works by celebrated choreographers like George Balanchine, Glen Tetley, and Stephen Baynes, demonstrating her remarkable versatility. In addition to classical ballet, Burnett excelled in contemporary pieces created by innovative artists such as Wayne McGregor, Stephen Page, and Jiri Kylian.
After spending 13 years with The Australian Ballet, Burnett transitioned to a freelance career, collaborating with contemporary visionaries like Melanie Lane and performing with esteemed companies including Chunky Move, Dutch National Ballet, and West Australian Ballet. In 2016, she took her talents to Europe, joining Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in Belgium. There, she interpreted works from luminaries like Pina Bausch, Alain Platel, and William Forsythe, and portrayed the title role in Akram Khan's contemporary adaptation of Giselle. She also had original creations crafted for her by notable choreographers such as Édouard Lock and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. In 2022, Burnett returned to Australia, embracing her role as a freelance artist while residing on Kombumerri-Yugambeh country in the Gold Coast.
