She began her transition to acting in the late 1990s, first featuring in the TV series Home Improvement (1996) and making her film debut in the comedy Private Parts (1997). Her role as Brooke McQueen in the WB Network's comedy-drama Popular (1999–2001) garnered her significant attention, earning her a Teen Choice Award for Television Choice Actress.
