Matthew Raymond "Matt" Burnett, born on March 7, 1983, in New Jersey, is an accomplished American animator, writer, director, voice actor, storyboard artist, and executive producer. He gained widespread recognition as the co-creator, alongside his long-time collaborator Ben Levin, of the beloved Cartoon Network series Craig of the Creek, which aired from 2017 to 2023, and its spin-off, Jessica’s Big Little World, released in 2023. Burnett and Levin also collaborated on the prequel film, Craig Before the Creek, which was released in the same year.

Prior to his success with his own series, Burnett played a pivotal role in the critically acclaimed Steven Universe from 2013 to 2018, serving as a senior writer and story editor. His contributions included developing nearly 50 episodes and refining scripts for over 50 more, working closely with storyboard artists to enhance Rebecca Sugar’s vision. Although Burnett and Levin transitioned to Craig of the Creek after its greenlight, they returned to co-write the story for Steven Universe: The Movie in 2019.

Burnett's career commenced in the mid-2000s, with his early work including voicing Simon in the short film She She She She’s a Bombshell! in 2006 and animating for Kappa Mikey in 2007. His diverse body of work is characterized by imaginative storytelling and a commitment to creating narratives rich with humor and emotional depth, reflecting his DIY upbringing and hands-on approach to creativity.
