Deborah Wasserman Schultz, born on September 27, 1966, is a prominent American politician who has been serving as the U.S. representative for Florida's 25th congressional district since her election to Congress in 2004. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously held the position of chair for the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Before her tenure in Congress, Wasserman Schultz made her mark in Florida politics, serving in both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. Notably, she was a national co-chair for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2008, showcasing her influence within the party. Her congressional district encompasses much of southern Broward County and parts of northern Miami-Dade County, including significant urban areas like Fort Lauderdale.

In May 2011, she ascended to the role of chair of the DNC, succeeding Tim Kaine. However, her leadership faced challenges, and on July 28, 2016, she stepped down amid controversy following the release of leaked emails by WikiLeaks. These emails indicated that she and certain DNC staff members had shown favoritism towards Hillary Clinton during the 2016 Democratic primaries, which became a topic of significant discussion surrounding party dynamics and funding strategies from previous campaigns.

Throughout her career, Wasserman Schultz has been a vocal advocate for various social issues and continues to play a significant role in American politics.
