Charlotte Arrowsmith
Charlotte Arrowsmith is a renowned British actor and theatre director known for her dynamic performances and direction, particularly in the Deaf community. A proud Deaf individual, she communicates primarily through British Sign Language (BSL).
At the age of 19, Charlotte embarked on her journey into the arts by enrolling in a BA Hons course in Theatre, Arts, Education, and Deaf Studies at the University of Reading. Her career in acting took flight with her captivating portrayal of the prophetess Cassandra in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Troilus and Cressida. Noteworthy performances include her roles in Moonbird with Handprint Theatre, as well as Midsummer Night's Dream and Love's Labour's Lost at Shakespeare's Globe in collaboration with Deafinitely Theatre, along with her work in Great Odds with Mac Arcadian.
In 2019, Charlotte joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, portraying Audrey in As You Like It and Curtis in The Taming of the Shrew. Notably, during the latter, she made history as the first Deaf actress to understudy a principal hearing role, stepping into the role of Vincentia.
Beyond her stage work, Charlotte is dedicated to nurturing the next generation, conducting drama workshops for both Deaf and hearing youth. She draws inspiration from notable figures like Ricky Gervais and Brian Duffy. Additionally, she has showcased her talents at music festivals and in music videos, including the vibrant 'Touch' by Benjamin Zephaniah, as a sign song performer.
