She first gained attention for her portrayal of Ramona Quimby in the 2010 comedy film *Ramona and Beezus*. However, it was her leading role as a late-blooming teenager in the popular *The Kissing Booth* series, released from 2018 to 2021, that truly catapulted her into the spotlight. King's performance as Gypsy-Rose Blanchard in the critically acclaimed miniseries *The Act* (2019) earned her nominations for both a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award, showcasing her dramatic range.
