Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Yoshinobu Yamamoto (山本 由伸), born on August 17, 1998, is a prominent Japanese professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball (MLB). Before making his MLB debut, he established himself as a standout player in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) with the Orix Buffaloes. Yamamoto's exceptional talent earned him numerous accolades, including three consecutive Pacific League Most Valuable Player Awards and three Eiji Sawamura Awards from 2021 to 2023. During this remarkable period, he also achieved three Triple Crowns, leading the league in wins, strikeouts, and earned run average each year. Notably, he recorded two no-hitters and played a pivotal role in securing the Japan Series championship for Orix in 2022.
After the 2023 season, he was posted to MLB and signed an unprecedented contract worth 12 years and $325 million with the Dodgers, marking the largest deal ever awarded to a pitcher at that time. In his inaugural MLB season, he was instrumental in helping Los Angeles clinch the 2024 World Series title. This achievement made him the first player in baseball history to win a World Series, an Olympic gold medal, and a World Baseball Classic title. Additionally, Yamamoto has proudly represented Japan on the international stage, winning gold at the 2019 WBSC Premier12, the 2020 Summer Olympics, and the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
