Katherine Marie Helmond (July 5, 1929 – February 23, 2019) was a versatile American actress and director whose career spanned more than fifty years across film, television, and theater.

Helmond gained widespread recognition for her memorable performance as the whimsical matriarch Jessica Tate on the groundbreaking ABC sitcom Soap, which aired from 1977 to 1981. Her portrayal of the spirited mother Mona Robinson in the beloved series Who's the Boss? (1984–1992) further solidified her status as a television icon. Additionally, she showcased her talent as Doris Sherman on Coach and took on the role of Lois Whelan, the mother of Debra Barone, in Everybody Loves Raymond. Throughout her career, Helmond made guest appearances on numerous popular shows, including True Blood, Strong Medicine, Providence, The Love Boat, The Bionic Woman, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bob Newhart Show, Mannix, and Gunsmoke.

In film, Helmond appeared in notable projects such as Alfred Hitchcock's Family Plot (1976), Terry Gilliam's Brazil (1985), and the comedy Overboard (1987). She also lent her voice to the character Lizzie in Disney/Pixar's acclaimed Cars trilogy.
