His big break came while performing at a nightclub in Santa Monica called The Horn, where he caught the attention of Andy Griffith. This opportunity led him to join The Andy Griffith Show, where he portrayed Gomer Pyle, a gas station attendant often perceived as simple-minded. However, Nabors emphasized that Gomer was a character of optimism, always seeking the good in others. The character's popularity culminated in Nabors headlining his own spin-off series, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.
